The American Farm Bureau Federation presented U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Ga. 2nd Dist., with its Golden Plow Award during a presentation at the Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) office in Macon Aug. 4. This award is the highest honor AFBF gives to sitting members of Congress in recognition of recipients’ representation of farmers and ranchers.

GFB nominated Bishop for the award because of his exemplary work on behalf of U.S. agriculture and his commitment to addressing the needs of his constituent farmers in Georgia’s 2nd Congressional District and their counterparts across the nation.

Bishop is a  long-time member of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee and chairs the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies. He was first elected to Congress in 1992  and is the senior member  of Georgia’s U.S. Congressional delegation.
