Defensive Driving Discount FAQ's

Q. Does my driving record determine if I qualify for the discount?

A. Yes, in order to be eligible for this discount your driving record must show no moving violations or at-fault accidents within the prior 36 months.

Q.  What is the required length of the defensive driving course to earn a discount?

A.  The required length is 6 hours, which this course will satisfy. Please note that this course is for drivers who are of age 25 and older. For drivers between 16-24 years of age, please contact your insurance agent for qualifying course requirements.

Q.  How long will I receive the discount?

A.  Provided you remain violation and accident free, the discount can* be afforded for 3 years from completion date of the course.

Q.  Is my discount removed after 3 years and can I re-apply for the discount?

A.  Yes the discount is removed and you may complete the course again to certify and continue your discount.

Q.  How much will this discount save me on my premium?

A. The defensive driving discount provides a 10% reduction on the following coverages: Bodily Injury, Property Damage, Medical Payments and Collision. 

Q.  Now that I’ve completed my course how do I receive my discount?

A.  Congratulations on finishing the course! To have the discount added to your policy, contact your insurance agent and provide them with the course certificate. 

Q. Can I take the defensive driving course online?

A. Yes, the SafeDriver.com course is 100% online.  You can start and stop the course at your convenience (the course automatically saves your place).
