9th Annual 'Shoot for Seth' Fundraiser

Posted on February 5, 2025 12:15 PM

Ray Stapleton and his wife Angela received a call in October of 2015 that no parent ever wants to get. That call changed everything as they learned their 17-year-old son, Seth, had died in a single vehicle accident just hours after they had cheered him on at a high school football game.

Seth proudly wore #71 as a right guard for the Morgan County High Bulldogs. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing and hunting and enjoyed his time on the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team. He even had the opportunity to participate in a national competition in Illinois. To keep his memory alive while helping and inspiring others, they established a nonprofit in his name: the Seth Stapleton Memorial Fund.

The Seth Stapleton Memorial Fund awards scholarships annually to Morgan County senior athletes, senior shooters with Morgan County 4H and senior shooters involved in private schools or teams across Georgia. Each year they hold a fundraiser, a one-day sporting clay shoot in Seth’s honor. All proceeds from the event benefit the Seth Stapleton Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The fundraiser grows each year. When they started, nine years ago, they were able to fund just over twenty scholarships. Today they award around fifty $1,000 scholarships annually. To date they’ve awarded over $300,000 in Seth’s memory.

The 9th Annual Shoot for Seth Event will be held Saturday, February 22nd, 2025, at Old Hudson Plantation in Sparta, Georgia. For more information on this event or if you’d like to become a sponsor visit  www.shootforseth.com or email shootforseth@gmail.com .
