GFB 2nd District holds 10th annual cattle show

Georgia Farm Bureau’s 2nd District held its 10th Annual Young Farmer & Rancher Steer & Heifer Show Jan. 19 at the Habersham County Agriculture Center. About 250 people turned out to watch 83 students compete in the event that is held to aid cattle exhibitors in the district sharpen their showmanship skills before the Georgia Junior National Livestock Show in February.

The district uses the show to introduce exhibitors to Farm Bureau membership and the GFB Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) program in hopes of encouraging students to get involved with their county YF&R Committees when they turn 18.

Wyatt Chandler of Jackson County and Ellie Clark of Hall County won the top prizes in the show.

 

 

 

Chandler won the $300 prize for Grand Champion Steer.

 

 

 

Clark won the $300 prize for Supreme Champion Heifer with her Percent Simmental heifer.

Adam Tawzer of Franklin County received the $200 prize for Reserve Champion Steer.  Peyton Puckett of Jackson County won the $200 prize for Supreme Reserve Champion Heifer with her High Percent Simmental heifer.

Shelby Dalton of Banks County won the $500 Academic Scholarship given by the GFB 2nd District Young Farmer Steer & Rancher and Heifer Show Committee. Austin Hill of Jackson County won 12th Grade Showmanship and a $250 Prize. 

Each of the students who competed received a GFB membership brochure, a GFB Young Farmer calendar and a souvenir t-shirt designed by Franklin County Young Farmer & Rancher Heather Cabe. The prizes for the show awards were funded by donations from 2nd District County Farm Bureaus, county presidents and insurance agents.

Other showmanship winners were: 11th Grade - Ellie Clark, Hall County; 10th Grade - Grace McClain, Habersham County; 9th Grade - Savannah Page, Jackson County; 8th Grade - Jesse Cronic, Jackson County; 7th Grade - Trey Chafin, Hart County; 6th Grade -  Raegan Gilbert,  Banks County; 5th Grade - Landon Clark, Hall County.

High Percent Simmental Champion - Peyton Puckett, Jackson County;

High Percent Simmental Reserve Champion - Grace McClain, Habersham County

 

Angus Champion - Jesse Cronic, Jackson County

Angus Reserve Champion -   Savannah Page, Jackson County

 

Shorthorn Champion -   Shelby Dalton, Banks County

Shorthorn Reserve Champion -  Mary Alice Knight, Stephens County

 

Shorthorn Plus Champion - Nathan McConnell, Habersham County

Shorthorn Plus Reserve Champion - Sarah Howard, Union County

 

Simmental Champion - Landon Clark, Hall County

Simmental Reserve Champion - Abigail Allen, Jackson County

 

Other Breeds Champion - Eric Ashworth, Banks County

Other Breeds Reserve Champion - Trey Chafin, Hart County

 

Commercial Heifer Champion -  Ellie Clark, Hall County

Commercial Heifer Reserve Champion -  Savannah Page,  Jackson County
