Celebrate AFBF's 100th year by giving back

Farm Bureau members are ramping up philanthropic outreach in their local communities to commemorate the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 100th year.
AFBF’s three national program committees are encouraging grassroots members and state committees to “give back” to a variety of charities as part of the outreach, dubbed the 100-Day Centennial Challenge.
Farmer and rancher members are invited to participate in one or more of the following philanthropic activities:
Food, volunteer hours and cash donations to local food banks and soup kitchens through the AFBF Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee’s “Harvest for All” program. Now in its 17th year, Farm Bureau’s long tradition of helping put food on the tables of those in need continues through Harvest for All efforts;
Monetary contributions to Ronald McDonald House Charities as part of the AFBF Women’s Leadership Committee’s $100,000 donation drive. Ronald McDonald Houses allow families to access specialized medical treatment for their children by providing a place to stay at little or no cost. The connection between Farm Bureau and Ronald McDonald House Charities was forged in the mid-1990s;
New this year, butter and cheese donations to local food pantries in addition to collecting fun, colorful bandages for kids as part of Noah’s Bandage Project, in collaboration with the AFBF Promotion & Education Committee.

The 100-day initiative runs through Nov. 8; AFBF’s official centennial date is Nov. 12.
The AFBF Foundation for Agriculture is also seeking donations to support agricultural literacy projects, including scholarships for teachers to attend the National Ag in the Classroom conference. The foundation will present the following awards as a part of the effort:
• State Leader Awards – State Leader Awards are presented to the state Farm Bureaus when each board member of the respective Farm Bureau donates at least $50 to the Foundation;
• County Leader Awards – County Leader Awards are presented to county Farm Bureaus when each member of that county board of directors donates at least $25 to the Foundation;
• Challenge Awards– Challenge awards are presented to Farm Bureau committees (national, state or county) or other groups, such as insurance agents, when 100% of that group donates at least $25 to the Foundation;
• The Scholar Award– The Scholar Award is given to 6 states – one from each member group – and is awarded to the state Farm Bureau with the highest total donations in that member group. To be considered for this prestigious award, states must first qualify for the Leader Award;
• Apex Award– Given to states that increase their total donations by 10% from the previous year. This includes donations from states, counties and individuals so every bit counts!
